Anyone use PTO Generators?

I am looking at buying a PTO genset for my small tractor. This seems like a sensible option for power, since it one less engine to maintain.

Worst case it could be used as a backup to a larger genset.

Anyone used one? Thoughts?

Less gear noise, longer gear life compliments of the gearbox's shaved steel gears. Connects to a 1 3/8in. diameter, 6-tooth spline output shaft that needs to turn at 540 RPM.

I've used... just make sure you've got a tractor with a 540 pto and enough hp to turn your gen. Think about what you're gonna power with regard to the sine wave produced. Some electrical devices are fussy, some aren't. Homework here may save grief later.

Be sure to pound in a ground stake.

If your tractor is overkill it may be more fuel efficient to get a more conventional generator. Jmo.

Re: Anyone use PTO Generators?

I have a 11kW PTO that is three-point hitch mounted for my 33hp New Holland tractor. It has run for a week at a time after the floods in Central New York two and a half years ago. Big enough to run our place as if nothing has happened. Lights, heat, AC, pool filter pump, two wells, everything on the place.

They turned the power back on two days before I noticed a neighbors house lights on.

Love it.
